Major: Cell and Molecular Neuroscience

Class Year: 2028

High School: Wylie High School

Advisor: Dr. Jennifer Dulin

Research Focus: Neuroscience, Spinal Cord Injury, Male Infertility

Other Projects and Publications: The project I am currently working on focuses on investigating mechanisms of male infertility following spinal cord injury. Poor sperm quality is a significant secondary health problem plaguing men with spinal cord injury, but there is very little known about the mechanisms underlying infertility. Our goal in this project is to perform neural circuit mapping, flow cytometry, and histological analysis to test the hypothesis that dysfunction of the sympathetic nervous system is the driving force underlying infertility.

Organizations and Programs: Texas A&M American Medical Student Association, Texas A&M American Red Cross, Texas A&M National Scholar Ambassadors, Aggie Mental Health Ambassadors

Awards and Distinctions: University Honors Fellow, President's Endowed Scholar

Experience: Fall/Spring Semester Research

Years Experience: 1

Other Activities: Volunteering, Clinical Shadowing, Reading, Writing, Photography

Bio: Howdy! My name is Kathryn Anderson, and I am a Cell and Molecular Neuroscience major from Abilene, Texas. As an Undergraduate Research Ambassador, I am excited to share my passion for undergraduate research and to help students of all disciplines find their own transformative research opportunities. In the future, I hope to apply the skills and knowledge I gain at Texas A&M to better understand the nuanced ways that the nervous system heals and changes after injury. After graduating, I intend to pursue a career in research and medicine.
